Image Of Tire Being Worked On With Tools

jumpercablesWe’ve all been there, on the side of the road with a flat tire or in a parking garage with no starter cables. These situations are some of the most helpless ones that you can find yourself in. You sit and wait for someone to ask if you need help, maybe call AAA or, maybe, if you’re feeling desperate enough you ask someone if they’ve got a set of jumper cables they can help you get up and running with. These situations, while entirely unexpected, are the ones that teach us the lessons on what to have in order to always be prepared.

At Kearny Mesa Auto, we have worked on quite a few cars that have wound up in these situations and wound up towed or dropped off at our repair shop located in Kearny Mesa. During all of those times we talk about the simple things that people could have had in their cars that would have helped them entirely avoid the situation they wound up in, and then we realized, what better way to keep people prepared than by writing out all of the items that everyone should have ready in their car.

Jumper Cables

This is one that we’re always surprised to find out that people don’t carry in their car. More often than not, the people that don’t carry jumper cables usually only have yet to wind up with a dead battery. These cables are pretty inexpensive and can be found in most supermarkets in the automotive section. It’s always worth it to carry a set of jumper cables around, even in the case that you find someone that needs help. There is such a thing as good car karma!

spareTire Jack & Tire Iron

Most cars will come with these, and you can usually find where they’re located in your car’s manual if it isn’t in an obvious and visible location. These are absolute must haves. Without them, you are definitely going to have to call AAA or have someone come and help you change your tire. While we’re mentioning the importance of these tools, it really doesn’t hurt to learn how to change a tire on a tire that is perfectly fine, so that your first instinct isn’t a combination of a mental and emotional breakdown.

Spare Tire

Following those useful tools is a part that goes left behind all too often. Most cars will also come with a spare donut tire in the case that you do wind up getting a flat tire, but it’s always good to make sure that this tire is there and that it has enough air to get you from one place to the next. This should be checked every so often, and always replaced or returned once it has been used.

These three items are only a few of the things that you should be carrying in your car at all times. Make sure to keep up with our blog post, as we will be adding to this list in the next couple of blogs.
